No of course not. The amount you will get will depend on the condition, age, miles, features, and many other factors. Know the value of your car though or else you will probably not get what it's worth. www.kbb.com and www.edmunds.com will help.

No but value assigned to it is determined by actual condition of the car and what it would take to sell it again. Say if a car is peeling paint I would have to send it out and pay at least $500 to get it repeainted as most people won't buy a car with peeling paint on a used car lot.. So I have to discount the price I can offer on trade in.

value is assigned on condition, But I've seen cars ready for the scrap heap come in and be traded (and were given $200 for the car.. value of scrapping the car)

Of course not, but if you are determined to trade it in the better the condition the more you will get.
However, you can usually get much more by selling it yourself. If you check Kelley Blue Book you will see that Private Party Sale value is much more than Trade in value.

One in a hundred cars traded in is perfect. WHY would you trade in a perfect car??? DUH

Here's a tip: never buy a used car from a dealer with a different brand name than the car (a chevy from a Ford dealer, etc)

The person who traded the car in probably changed brands because he was unhappy with it.

They need to look good (like a used one when you buy it) but you're really wasting your money fixin' one up to trade it in. Get the most out of it by selling it to an individual and taking the cash to a car lot...

Nope, the worse condition it is in the less you will get. Check out the value at www.kbb.com.

no...but it certainly lowers the "trade in" value....dealers look at the overall condition, mileage, shape the body is in, etc. before they determine how much they will offer you.

no, but I wouldn't expect a good trade in value if its a rusted out vehicle

No, but you would be better off if you sold it and used the money to buy a new one
