Who Really Owns And Controls The Media?

It’s not the Commies or Liberals as some of the far right nut cases here claim.

The truth is most of the media sources we are exposed to these days are owned and/or controlled by mega corporations. They are businesses! They want to make profits! There is nothing Commie about large corporations wanting to make lots of money.

These corporations are businesses with the intent to turn as much profit as possible for themselves and their stockholders. In order to do so these businesses try to stick to the most proven formulas for success. And they’ve learned the best way to attract and maintain as large an audience as possible is to stay as mainstream as possible, as moderate as possible. They are not leftist commies. They are capitalistic businesses. They are, for the most part, much more conservative than the average person because they are businessmen.

The rare exceptions are the few independently owned ventures: like Rupert Murdock’s Fox or the Washington Post.

Many aspects of Time Warner was/is founded by a fanatical leftist (Ted Turner) whose wife was/is a Communist (Hanoi Jane Fonda). They are virtually one in the same now. Many of the entities within Time Warner did not exist before the 60s, Doctor Watson.


If you want to be completely "fair and balanced" (Had to throw Fox News in there), you need to find out what the bias is of journalists, who reveal the news. Of course, liberals such as yourself, Watson, won't touch this, knowing a poll was put out that found that self-proclaimed liberals far outweighed conservatives within the media. Heck, journalists don't come even close in representation of the American public.

I agree.. I wouldn't doubt that if Hillary wins the election, Fox news will start being truly a Liberal news propaganda machine. Rupert Murdoch is now befriending Hillary and even hosting fund raisers. Will Fox turn suit??

Sunshine- I don't agree. I think most Liberals can see which people in the news are biased where conservatives think all media is biased towards the Liberal agenda except Fox news. They tend to believe Fox is really the only fair and balanced news station. I can fully see Lou Dobbs and Keith Olberman are Liberals and have biased shows. Everything on Fox(pretty much) is biased towards republicans.. The middle would be Anderson Cooper(who can't contain himself sometimes), Shepard Smith, Greta, Russert, etc. Libs see the difference, cons seem not to..

OK you can't list only liberal sources as your case. Look, all liberals think that the media has a conservative bias and all conservatives have a liberal bias. There's proof on both sides of it. You're doing the same thing you say the conservatives are doing. Only thing different is that you're assuming that there's not a single liberal businessman. Gosh stop makign the rest of us look bad. There's bias everywhere. Everyone knows Fox has a conservative bias, oh well. They're allowed to! As for other news places, sometimes they do sometimes they don't. Seriously, look at it! It's more balanced than you think. You just want it to be biased towards conservatives for some idiot reason. I'm liberal and I still enjoy the news. I even watch Fox news sometimes. not because I'm pro-conservative... but because it's important to be to get both sides. You're only talking about one in an ignorant way.

I agree with you. As mega businesses, first of all they are ALWAYS going to be worried about offending their sponsors... secondly, they are going to be more interested in business and the interests of the corporate world. For example... GE owns NBC and GE produces huge amounts of ammunition and so they certainly were not going to say anything bad about the Iraq war. As all media outlets did, they beat the drums for WAR WAR WAR.. it's really sickening. It is life out of balance. and things that are out of balance eventually collapse. Basic physics.

This is a DUTCH documentary (mostly english footage though, so please do watch it).

Now, if anyone is willing to give some "conspiracy theory" explanation as to why a country like the Netherlands would display this on national TV (considering their intimate, almost sexual, relationship with the USA), would speak in this fashion about the US media, is welcome to give it a shot.

The introduction in dutch says something to the extend "Those who thought propaganda on so called news channels belong to the past during the cold war, should reconsider. Watch this documentary and keep in mind the coming up elections".
