What do you think, is work taking people away from what is really important?

I'm originally from Italy, where life is more laid-back, so I would definitely say that people in the US work too much. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but most people have to in order to pay off their credit card bills, student loans or mortgages. The US may well be the richest country in the world, but it's also the one where people are the most in debt. I have been living here for a few years, and I still can't adjust to this whole credit score, loans and insurance plans thing. Yes, credit cards and loans allow you to possess things that you couldn't afford otherwise (houses, beautiful cars, a good education since universities here are so expensive) but it's like you are a slave to money and the only option you have is work and work to pay off your debts. Life isn't all about money and owning stuff, though.

Yes Yes and Yes. We work way to much. My husband works from 12 to 16 hours a day, 6 days a week and we have 3 children. He misses a lot of family time, but he is doing the best that he can and I understand that. His job is just too demanding and I am a full time student so it isn't like he can just quit his job.

Yes they do. Not it's not. But you are assuming that a person values something besides work. I know many that are happy to just bee a cog in the machine, they hate kids, and they don't like their family. They'll go out for parties and drinks, but work makes their world. Who am I to judge them?

Before one complains about one's working situation, consider that: most african children start 'working' as soon as they are physically able to, meaning around 7-9 years old. They work around the clock, get peanuts for pay and have no idea of the concept of 'holiday'.

ha!
work?
hehehe....it is not work...it is just their distractions from reality
you can work and get in touch with reality, but people are in a reality of their own, living their own lives and providing needs just for them....i wouldnt say work, but kind of like a internal trance

Yes, I think so. Most people in European countries have way more vacation and personal time.
Check this chart!

I personally think people work better when they play better (not so stressed and all).
MORE VACATION!!
