To get rid of this awful lingering stink, fill as large microwave-safe bowl with one cup of water and sprinkle your favorite spice like cinnamon or add several drops of vanilla or lemon extract. Bring to a boil. You must let it sit inside for 10 to 15 minutes to cool down. Simply wipe the walls down with paper towels. Leave the door open to further air it out.

Once a week and particularly after cooking something that leaves an odor behind, I place a microwave safe bowl and warm water with a few drops of dish detergent and microwave on high or about a minute and a half. The steam will build up inside the microwave. Wipe it clean with a soft clean cloth and the odor should wipe away easily along with whatever food particles are in there, as well. Once in a while I place extracts such as vanilla, almond or orange and do the same, it makes my kitchen smell very nice.

You have to be careful with what you use to clean a microwave oven. You could ruin the surface. Just try cleaning it really well with water and a dishrag or sponge. You may have to go over it several times. The smell should go away soon.

My fiance did that ... take a wet sponge and microwave it for one minute, then wipe the inside of the microwave down.

If that doesn't work, use a multi-purpose cleaner with orange oil.
