Mars, August 27th
Supposed to be the closest it will be for hundreds of years. This is the rumor.
Turns out to be false. Mars came as close as it does every 15 years in 2003; it apparently also comes relatively close every two years when it comes between the Earth and Sun.
Details can be found here (there's also a link to NASA):

In August, 2006, the closest Mars will come to Earth is 232,392,825.9 miles (August 1st). THREE YEARS AGO Mars came within 34,646,418 miles of Earth on August 28, 2003, the closest it's been in the last 50,000 years. Regardless of what you've been told, it was NOT as large as the full moon.

There is only one body in the solar system that ever gets to be a large in the sky as the moon appears. One hint: it's a lot brighter than the moon.

a lot of folk think of that the international will lead to 2012 in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it wont, some thing somewhat undesirable will purely ensue. all electrical energy will flow out, fires, tsunamis, earthquakes, and a lot of folk could die, yet dont be scared. Im no longer.
