Yes- a hunch is a part of our intuition. Some people have a very strong intuition, and are called "psychic" because of how good they are.
I once thought my friend was stealing my money, so I had her empty her pockets, and flip the bottom of her bra, and take off her shoes and socks. I was right.

I think that we all have sensations that we are losing touch of as we grow older, and get involved with our busy, overexposed lives. I believe that we all have the ability to be astute to certain facts which others may overlook. We all have hunches, and often times they are correct. I don't think it is just random as some are very good at what they do. They are more in touch with the universe. In my line of work, I have to observe and watch people, and 9/10 I know what they are up to.
For instance, I was trained to hear what people don't say when they speak. What I mean by that is that we sometimes want to share aspects of our lives that are very personal, and don't know how to state them, start rambling, and circumventing ways to just say it. In the end, you said everything BUT what you meant to say, and that is what my attention is drawn to.
I also worked with certain agencies that recruit profilers, and these are people who are trained to see what others may easily overlook. There is a very interesting book, that you may want to consider, which would offer you a wide variety of such examples by an author entitled "Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking". Easy read, which may be enjoyable to you.

Yes, I was working an MVC (Motor Vehicle Crash) and for some reason had a hunch to walk into the woods and look (we already had a patient in the vehicle) I walked into the woods and found the second occupant of the car, this was about 20-25 yards into the woods where he landed.
