You need to contact an insurance agent. If you are the homeowner, you will need liability insurance (in case someone is hurt on your property). Also you need to insure the house and its contents in the event of a disaster- fire, flood, explosion, etc.
Insurance varies from city to city and state to state.
That's why a good insurance agent is necessary. Ask your friends or neighbors about their insurance. You don't have to get too personal, just say "I am looking for a good insurance agent for my house, can you suggest any?"

I'd go with Lloyds of London. Other insurance companies will have excuses to limit protection from certain kinds of lawsuits, fault, etc. But you can get a conditions free insurace from Lloyds - premiums may be a bit more, but you can completely protect your house from lawsuits with Lloyds insurance.

You might want to check your policy carefully. Mine says that it only protects for highsuits and zootsuits.
