some would consider that it was, because basically it was his last draw. from the beginning there were a LOT of people that hated Lincoln, kind of like Bush. He did a lot of things that were necessary for the country but it pissed a lot of people off. The Emancipation Proclomation just finalized peoples hatred of him.

In the reading I've done on the conspirators, not much or anything was said on racism, although I wouldn't doubt that those involved were.
Their main cause was the Southern Confederacy. Boothe was consumed with the defeat of the south and managed to include those few others who were later caught and hanged.
Boothe, of course got shot in a barn.
