I was not one of those that ran out to the theater to see this one, but did rent and then bought the DVD. The thing to remember about this movie is that it's not "gay" in the way people think of that word in 2005. It's set in the 1960s, before there was an organized gay culture of any significance, especially in Wyoming. These characters think of themselves as heterosexual men with a secret — not as gay. Yes, there's kissing. Yes, there's more than kissing. And it's intense, but not full of nudity or graphic sex (other than one scene, which was not even all that graphic, but rather left a lot to your imagination).
The movie is more about the emotions and internal conflicts that these two men face in dealing with their feelings for each other and the commitments they have made to their families, than it is about 'being gay cowboys" I am not one moved to emotion by movies often, but found myself unable to keep back the tears watching this one.

For the ILOVEJESUS idiot out here , and anyone else who hates gays - GET A LIFE and come out of the closet!!! The movie was ok, but I thought it would be better. Great seeing more gay love stories, though. It doesn't really depict gay living, although it DOES show the side of life where some gays live a terrible heterosexual LIE just so they can survive without getting beaten, fired, disowned or killed by the ignorant and the violent. The world needs more gay breakthrough films like this one.

One person (SKY) says that the initial sex in the movie was forced......she needs to watch that scene again!
I like the other comment (forgot your name) about the real theme being living in denial and secrecy, not about being gay per se. But it does carry over, that because of how society would react, or might react, so many of us do live lives of denial and little black secrets.

That movie was crap. Boring with hardly understandable accents and a sex scene that made me laugh. I waited close to a year for it to be released in theatres and then tracked its progress until it made it to the one near me, and was sorely disappointed that it was--yet again--just another bad gay film.
I don't care how much "depth" it was supposed to have.

Not having seen it, I can't say for sure. But I would like to see it. I like both actors who were in it and there certainly has been a lot of talk/varying opinions about it.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to rent it!!

First, let me say I am NOT a homosecual, but it was a good movie. Once you get past them being gay, you see how much devotion and love they had for one another

it was a good movie but it would've worked as well if the gay angle wasnt there too..i think it made more business because of the curiosity factor given the gay issue...what a shame

I saw it and it seemed that the relationship was strictly based off of sex and that is started pretty much by one forcing the other to give in and have sex. NOT RIGHT

I don't have anything against gays, but I cannot bring myself to watch Heath Ledger go at it with a guy.

It's a great demonstration as to why "gays' aren't really. I'm surprised it wasn't labeled as an 'anti-gay' movie!
