Here are some secrets of others, that may have a bit more insight on the subject. Is anything "everlasting"? My belief is that happiness lies within.

Nothing external can provide everlasting happiness.

“We have no right to ask when a sorrow comes, 'Why did this happen to me?' unless we ask the same question for every joy that comes our way.”

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.”

“It is every man's obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it.”

“Happiness is just an illusion caused by the temporary absence of reality.”

“I've learned that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.”

“Remember happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.”

“It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.”

“The secret of happiness is the determination to be happy always, rather than wait for outer circumstances to make one happy.”

It is not a secret. It is sacred!
Happiness is a state of mind and body you reach when things are ok with you and those you love. To start with, you could daily ask yourself the question: Am I happy?
It will not depend on you having the brand new car, or being the manager @ job, or acquiring anything in life. It is much more related with your self. When you accept yourself just the way you are. If you believe in God, then it is worth trying to let Him conduct your life ( of course you´ve got to take your own decisions, cause He won´t take it for you), but what I mean is, when you understand the reason you are here on earth for, when you are satisfied with the things that you already have, and specially when it comes to the point that you forget about yourself and think more of you love and live with, and serve them the way you´d like to be served, without reservations and without wanting to be rewarded by your deeds, this is when you´re happy.
I´m not trying to teach you anything, I´m just saying that maybe you´re already happy, maybe you aren´t. But you´re the one to find out. And if you are not, then there is a power within yourself that is able to take you there, to the quest of truth, and living according to what is true can only bring happiness.
I mean, if we believe that we were created by a supreme being (God) then likely to believe that same being that gave us life is able to take it from us. That being said, when we believe that, we can try to understand the things we need to do and the ones God expects from us in order to achieve the everlasting happiness we all search. I hope you´re granted more and more understanding in your journey through life, may you have peace and success. May you find the happiness you deserve.

Best regards,

Being content within yourself, and that doesn't mean you will always be in a great smiling mood either. It just means that you've come to the realization that external things (big houses, fancy cars and clothes, expensive vacations, other people) won't make you happy. You'll be able to go through life and handle just about anything if you understand this concept. Happiness can come from temporary events, but contentment is the everlasting emotion!!

The proper dosage of Prozac is a good beginning. Second, avoid the negative things in your life. Spend the vast majority of your time and life dealing with positive people and situations. When you must deal with the negative, do it quickly and put it behind you.

to begin with - accept that happiness cant be everlasting...
dont take anyone / anything for granted and dont get caught in the vicious circle of need and greed...

the more you get, the more you spend, the more you need and it just goes on...

Making a decision to be happy no matter what. And remembering that we most probably only get one life and nobody gets out of it alive. Not sweating the small stuff and realising that it's all small stuff.
