you can only run 1 dsl modem per line entering your house. But the good news is, you can run as many computers off one dsl modem as you wish! You need to purchase two items: a small router and a switch. This shouldn't set you back more than maybe 80 dollars. Since you only want to run two computers, buy a 5 port switch. The router needs two ports: 1 input and 1 output, but you can probably find one that has 1 input port and 5 output ports. In this case you won't need to buy a separate switch. Simply install a separate cat5 cable to each computer and you're set to go. You must purchase the router in order to use two computers on your dsl service. Your service provider sends the signal to the router and your router sends the data to the requesting computer. I hope this helps. D-Link and Netgear are good consumer-quality brands, of course there are others.

In order to use a second DSL modem you would have to pay to have a second DSL line run into your home. It would double your monthly DSL bill to do that. Or you can only run one modem at a time. You did list the correct solution, which is a router. Depending on where you physically locate the router you may be able to run cables to both the PS2 and the desktop and not lose any signal. (Plus most of the time the wireless connection (54mbpd) is still faster then your ISP (6 mbps), so you really don't lose anything.)

You can as long as you have enough broadband.
I now have a router built into my modem, the new 2-wire, but have used two modems before without any problems.

No, you would have to get a separate phone line.
I recommend that you buy a Router. I recommend LINKSYS. But run cables upstairs (or down). A wired network is easier to use, more reliable and faster.
Good luck

Your best bet is to get a multi-port device such as a router for connecting more than one PC on a DSL modem.
I do not believe it is even possible to do what asked.
Linksys makes some very fine products for this purpose.

If you need more help with this let me know.
Good Luck

get a broadband router from any computer store for $40 and some cables, or get wireless, might be less trouble.
