At the time the US was pushing Canada to contribute a military presence in Iraq (I am not sure what they were after we don't have much of one) so I assume the pressure was for diplomatic reasons -"Look even Canada is on our side".The reasoning I/we heard from the US is that they'd go to war for us if we declared war on someone a kind of peer presure ussually reseved for the school yard but Cretian wouldn't budge.
Would they though ? Have they in the past?
War of 1812 they attempt to invade Canada
1898 and 1901 Boer war we went they didn't
1914 we went to war they joined after making a huge profit selling somthing to everyone joined 1916-1939 a complete repeat of ww1 they went 41Korea and Vietnam we sent a small volenteer Battalion and refused to declare war but we do have Nam/Korean vets who signed. The 90's we arrest the Estai off the Grand bank after chaseing it into international waters and shooting it's screw out and then dragged them back the US was where?Would they really?

The Estai was a Spainish ship fishing ilegally - the Liberal government sent the Navy after them and we got called Pirates and so forth it could have turned ugly - The UK supported us 100% and the EU accused them of supporting a Commonwealth country over an EU partner. So isn't it all hype that the US says "oh we'd be there for you" did they mean they sell us weapons and then get involved years later if it looked like we'd win and then make a movie out of it - the way they did in WW1 and then again in WW2 conviently forgeting about the fact that most of the globe went as they sat back and said "Bob house of guns -Open for business"

Not from America but the US hated the French so badly they called them that - I don't know what ever happened to it I suppose the fad went out . Never really followed it but I thought it was the funniest thing ever when I heard the Americans say that .

Canada has supported us enough times, and actually did have a naval presence in the Middle East in support of us. They just didn't send ground troops. They did send them to Afghanistan, we managed to kill of a couple of them with 'friendly fire".

Ah, Iraq was our stupidity. No reason anybody should follow us blindly into it.

Oh, yeah, the warship link (wink)

Why would Canada contribute a military presence in Iraq? What are the odds of Canada going to war against anybody unless it was a part of a massive coalition? We sent troops to South Africa, Europe, Korea, Afghanistan (which Americans forget), and etc. The only way the USA would help Canada in a war is if it benefited the US. If Canada went to war with ummm, any nation and it did not benefit the US they would not help at all. The US is a nation that does things for themselves and ignores conflicts otherwise.

I'm Canadian. I think there 's many reason why we didn't came to Irak, and other's...

Canada tryied to promote himself as "Neutral"
Canadians didn't forgot the the Drafthing,
Iraq was a scam...like totally fake, and for the wrong reasons..
We don not leave you the war, we are in Afghanistan, doing the job,

Now Harper is in power here in Canada...So we will be just like you very soon, commited to the bones...

I don't like that Canada has like you said barely any military. I know the reason you don't is because if any one invaded you , you would expect the U.S. to be there to protect ya! I don't think that's very fair. You guys talk about how you have all this beautiful country and health care and stuff. We could have that her too if we didn't have to supply all the military defense. Don't tell me we don't have to you guys depend on us to much. But you will be the first ones to criticize us for what we do and the first ones the expect our help if needed.
