Yes, the PSP can connect to the Internet, but not all by itself. It speaks WiFi, so there needs to be some WiFi device present. (However, some coffee shops, McDonald's, and even some cities will let people use their WiFi for free.) Once you connect to a WiFi network, you can use the web browser, and there are even homebrew applications that will let you use IM.

The problem is that the PSP doesn't have a keyboard. It's very slow to input URLs into the PSP, and it would be painfully impractical to use the PSP to interact on Yahoo Answers, for example. So, you're probably not going to want to use the PSP web browser in the same way that you use a web browser on the computer.

That said, I went house-hunting today with my PSP today. There's a homebrew application that will scan for the existence of wireless networks. I noticed that certain cities offered free WiFi coverage. That was fun.

needs to have a wireless router in order to connect to the web. you have to either manually configiure it or you can let the PSP do it for you. cannot connect to the internet using any cable or anything.

very similar to you surfing the net on your cellphone. you enter the URL using the numbers for letters and off you go. a little keypad pops up whenever you need to type something in

You need to have wireless broadband, your psp will atomatically hook up to the internet and you can then log on by going to a certain section on your psp. It will be just the same as normal internet.
