Your iPod Nano uses flash memory versus the bigger iPods which use hard drives to store the media. Since there is nothing physical to "skip" that would lead me to think either software or a setting is the culprit.

See if the Shuffle Song setting isn't on

I am going off of my 30GB iPod, but I'm sure the administrative settings are similar. If not, refer to your user manual.

1) Scroll to Settings in your main menu.
2) There should be a setting entitled "Shuffle Songs." When that is enabled, your iPod skips around your play list versus just going down the line.
3) If ON, turn it OFF by clicking the center wheel button.

If that doesn't work, your software may be bad. It's a good idea every few months to check for software updates you can get the best performance out of your iPod.

Here are the steps to download new software:

1) Go to http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
2) At the very bottom, fill in the required information and click "Download iPod Software Update."
3) When the file finishes downloading, install it on to your computer.
4) Open the iPod Updater. In Windows, it's in the Start Menu under "iPod." I don't know for a Mac.
5) Plug in your iPod Nano when prompted.
6) If the software is old, it will tell you. Click Update. Your songs and settings WILL NOT be lost.
7) Your iPod will reboot.
8) At this time test it to see if the skipping is still there.

If this doesn't work, you may need to restore your iPod. This completely re-installs the software and settings. You will lose ALL your music and Photos. But they will still be on iTunes. Make the necessary backups first.

To do this task, perform the following steps.

1) Backup any photos and/or items which aren't in iTunes
2) Open the updater again
3) This time click Restore and follow the instructions
4) After that is complete, open iTunes and reload all your songs
5) Test to see if your problem is cured

If this isn't the fix, then the iPod itself is probably to blame. I would then direct you to the iPod support site on Apple's website.

Good luck! I hope this was helpful.
