I have met a new friend who i thought i had feelings for but i soon realised that what i thought was love was jus infactuation, the problem is he has said he is in love with me and now i feel like i have led him on. How do i let him down gently and tell i dont love him and would jus like to stay friends.

I don't think there is a gentle way of breaking the news to him, beating about the bush will only prolong the problem. Be honest and tell him out right how you feel about him, if he is a good bloke he will remain your friend good luck

Just be honest. Whatever you do won't feel gentle to him no matter how gently you do, if that makes sense. So be nice and tell him the truth.

Just say it. Don't try to butter him up or let him down easly. Being dumpped hurts, and not much can be done to soften the blow. So just let the blow hit, sink in and he will get over it.

write an email to him and let him know this.he will go angey and that but deep inside he will thankyou for letting him know .
