In Australia many of the guns readily available in the USA re not allowed to be owned or sold or bought here in Australia.

All gun owners need to be licensed and every gun registered. Every registered gun must be kept in a locked gun safe and the ammunition must be stored seperately.

The gun safe must be secured to the wall or floor of the room and there needs to be only one entry to the room.

Unless you are a specially licensed security guard or law enforcement person you may not carry a gun loaded or unloaded in public concealed or unconcealed that is not secured.

For instance for my partner to drive to the shooting range he secures the ammunition in a locked glove compartment of the car and the rifle must remain out of sight, he stores it behind the seat unloaded. If he leaves the car for any reason during the trip he must ensure the car is locked.

There are, according to word on the street, many hundreds of guns of all kinds stored in all kinds of places over the country, that people are hanging onto just in case.

There are less gun related crimes here than the USA by a long shot, but there always was, and the number of gun related crimes has fallen in Australia.

Of course many criminals still own guns they did not surrender when ownership was outlawed, and of course they didn't register the firearm.

you can't get a gun license unless you have a clean record, and a need to own a gun. ie. You need to be a farm worker, a security or law personnel, ot belong to a gun club or be a colllector.

There are of course many criminals who simply switched to knives, loaded needle and syringe, and other such weapons. However the need to be at close range to a person to do the damage means that there are less murders.

If a registered gun owner is involved in a dispute ie a restraining order is taken out on them the first thing the courts do is remove the weapon and the licence. This is a bit harsh on people whose livelihoods depend on them carrying a weapon as in security guards.

Basically is has disarmed our nation.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

People are too quick to give away their rights under the stupid belief that the government will protect them. Look at 9/11, the fire department, police, military, etc. The government is only there to clean up and do paperwork after-the-fact. Once we give up the right to own and bear arms, we open to being victims from anyone.

No, Australia has no CC laws, that I am aware of, the crime rate there is high. In the states, the states with a CC(conceal carry) or no gun laws have a low crime rate.

My general understanding is that offenses committed with a firearm went up sharply after Australians were required to turn in their guns. Same as happened in Britain.

Gun Crime increased, Criminals have no problem doing illegal things, and will buy firearms regardless of their status.
