I'm not saying that believing them is stupid.

Don't not judge Astrology by Sun sign horoscopes.

Astrology is by far more accurate than newspaper or online Sun sign columns. Astrology has been around for 5000 years, since the days of Babylonia and extensively studied. It would not still be in wide use around the globe by many different cultures, Chinese and Vedic to name some, if it didn't have merit.

Astrology uses your birth information: date, place and exact time to erect a natal chart, a map of the sky at your exact moment of birth.

The Ascendant and Midheaven are calculated based on your birth data and rule the 1st house cusp and 10th house cusps respectively. The Ascendant governs your self-expression, your personality and appearance. It is your mask and your approach to the world, ie. your package. The MC or Midheaven governs your ambition, status, reputation and community standing. It is very public.

The Sun rules your inner self and personality.
The Moon rules your emotions and nurturing urge.
Mercury rules your intellect, reasoning ability and your communication skills.
Venus rules love, affection and the need to socialize
Mars rules energy and aggression.
Jupiter rules expansion.
Saturn rules limits and structure.
Uranus rules sudden change and freedom.
Neptune rules intuition and the need to escape.
Pluto rules tranformation.

1st house - you, personality, the body, the appearance, health, beginnings
2nd house - money, possessions, values, self worth
3rd house - communications, brothers & sisters, short trips, conscious mind
4th house - the mother or the nurturing parent, home, family, security, latter part of life, private
5th house - love affairs, children, creativity, sports, speculations, romance, love that you give
6th house - work, health, daily habits, small animals
7th house - partnerships, business and marriage, open enemies
8th house - other people's money, sex, death, support from others, taxes, inheritance, regeneration
9th house - higher education, long distance travel. religion, the law, your ideals, in-laws
10th house - career, the father (or mother), reputation, fame, status
11th house - friends, hopes, wishes, goals, love received, circumstances beyond your control
12th house - subconscious mind, institutions, hidden strength, limitations, sorrows, hidden enemies, large animals, self-undoing

All 12 signs are contained in every person's chart.

The 8 planets and two luminaries (Sun & Moon) are placed in the signs and then placed in the 12 houses.

The mathematical relationships between the planets and points (Asc & MC) are then calculated: conjunctions (0°), oppositions (180°), squares (90°), trines (120°) and sextiles (60°) are the main ones.

Things to look for:

Chart shapes: bundle, fan, bucket, splay, locomotive, see-saw, splash etc.
Aspect patterns: grand trines, grand crosses, yods, t-squares, kites, mystic rectangles etc.
Hemisphere emphasis: southern or northern, eastern or western
Quadrant emphasis: 1, 2, 3, or 4
the elements: fire, earth, air and water
the qualities: cardinal, fixed, mutable
the houses: angular, succedent and cadent
most elevated planet
Most and least aspected planets
Mutual reception
where is the chart ruler
any stelliums
lunar nodes
the vertex
Chiron
intercepted signs and/or planets
linked houses
cusp rulers
cusp rules in houses

It's not so simple, and in fact it is very complicated. And it definitely involves a lot more than just your Sun sign.

A lot of people on this page seem to agree with you. Wouldn't you love to hear from those people who can explain why they believe what they believe? As for me, horoscopes are good indicators into human personalities. However, I wouldn't go as far to say that horoscopes rule's people' destiny. If I looked at the zodiac signs more closely in the past, I would have had a heads up on some mistakes I have made. I only say this because people are very vague at the beginning. And, what else does a person really have to go on, if they don't get a background check, or a good personal friend to give them the scope, or the 411 on that person. Besides, confining to an higher source what else is there, out there. I think people want to know what are you all about, at least I do. And, since we keep our most private and innermost thoughts to ourselves, an harmless birth date isn't a bad start. Horoscopes doesn't rule my life, and it never will rule me; there is such a thing as freewill, but I do like the insightfulness that horoscopes provides.

Personally, id c wht's wrong w/ them.....i guess it's just a thing that some ppl like to know.....4 me, my horoscope matches my personality very well, but i also look for ones that are close 2 my age group so that way it relates to issues that i care about more....and even though a lot of ppl have the same sign, u have 2 consider that there is more than one way something could happen; sometimes u have rly think about wht ur horoscope says and how it related 2 ur day. The best thing 4 me is 2 look at my horoscope and c if it did reflect my day at all, even if it's not right (which sometimes it's not, i'll admit) it's still something fun 2 do everyday!

I believe in Horoscopes because they really do come true. I have found that most Pisces are like me in many ways. I asked a question a couple of days ago for Pisces to tell me something about them, and they all said the same thing, which was the same as me. I also read books on Zodiac signs and they are so true to the person that I know under that sign. If you look up the Zodiac sign of yourself and some of your family members, you will see what I mean.

What is horoscope ? why people believe in them ?

Horoscope is time/personality/destiny matrix ? Why are you in this matrix ? It is a matrix becasue, you are only looking at the western zodiac designed by months, how about the chinese zodiac that goes by years. And how about by day 24hrs ? The horoscope matrix is designed by supernatural powers that wants to challenge the True Living God by governing the fallen human beings through their free will via the time/Personality/destiny matrix. We are boxed up so its easier to be governed.

Did you consiously choose to be in this matrix ? It is a supernatural matrix. Think out of the box. Your time and year of birth, is planned by God not the matrix. Connect back to God, rise above the Matrix. Jesus is the way, life and truth. Go to Jesus and rise above the Matrix. God has an end for your life. The supernatural powers also have an end for your life. Which do you want to choose ? God or Matrix ?

Well I don't believe the newspaper short version, they are too generalized and can appy to anyone. However I do believe in my horoscope when I read books that explain what the placement of a certain planet in a certain sign means - it has been correct always. One of the first books I ever read that was correct for sun signs was Linda Goodman's Sun Signs. After that I researched moon signs and the other planets in my chart and how they made me different from the sign (sun sign) I was born into.

I don't believe it. They are always so vague that it can be for anyone. Listen to people carefully today or watch where you walk or take advice from a wiser person. Stuff like that. That's just general advice. What's worse is every horoscope website will give you different advice.

Mine says, "I could be heading for a confrontation if I'm not careful". Whatever.

It seems like they can be very accurate...but then for grins and giggles I read other horoscopes and they are accurate as well. LOL

They're just written in such a general way that they can apply to anyone. Just a little fun nonsense.
