Gris-gris (pronounced gray-gray) are sachets filled with herbs, stones, and other objects geared toward a specific purpose. Gris-gris is not a vodou practice but hoodoo. It is african american folk magic. And yes there are places in new orleans that make these. However if you don't want to pay you can make them yourself. It is very simple to do.

If you want to learn about Voodoo and how to perform spells, etc. look on the website below for info. These people are genuine New Orleans practitioners of voodoo. I have been to this place and it is the real thing. I lived in New Orleans for years and still live nearby. Remember only do 'good' magic, never do 'evil' magic.

Man, one of my college professors had like a hundred gris-gris bags hanging on his windows in his office. I think he got them in the Caribbean and New Orleans. Some of them had like, little feathers or beads on the outside but they mainly looked like little fabric or leather pouches--the whole point is that you put secret stuff inside and don't show it to anybody. Zora Neale Hurston wrote about hoodoo in her book Of Mules and Men--maybe check out some folklore books or sites, or stuff from New Orleans or Jamaica.

Find a true practitioner of Voodoo. There are books on Voodoo, but for something like that, I would not even trust a book. The only answer to find someone who knows and ask them
