It was time to dump it before they ever started using it. Takes so much of the strategy out of a game its ridiculous. Watching an American League game is like watching Home Run Derby....in the National League, the manager actually manages....does he let the pitcher hit, send in a pinch hitter, what? In the American League, everyone goes up swinging for the fences. Boring!

Keep it and have both the DH and pitcher bat. It will take care of several issues.
1) Cut down on pitchers in AL throwing at batters as much, since they will have to bat as well.
2) Extend the careers of players like Mike Piazza so he can stay with a National League team.
3) Eliminate the NL advantage of the AL having pitchers only batting a couple of times a season. (But Bronson Arroyo didn't seem too rusty when he first started batting with the Reds)
ten people in a batting order is not sacralegious. big deal if someone only gets up twice in a game if the only get 1 or 2 runners the whole game.
Either have the DH in both leagues or in neither, this two sets of rules is STUPID. The National League and American League are just names at this point they are all part of Major League Baseball now, which changed in 2000. The advent of regular seaon interleague play should have resolved this issue once and for all, but as usual they dragged their feet on the issue.

For all of you in favor of the DH....why not just bat 8? Or why not have multiple EH's? Why not have a separate "defensive" and "offensive" team? You can not give a satisfactory answer to either of those questions. The rules are the rules. There should not be a DH in either league. Stop messing with the game. There are a lot of players putting up Hall of Fame numbers that old-timers never got the chance to put up. Should you now, automatically, put every hitter in the Hall that COULD have played longer and had HoF stats if they had? I say you have to if any player gets in as a result of DH-ing.

I think the DH position is quite useful. It can give some players a half of day off to rest a bit. It is so much more challenging for pitchers to pitch in the A.L.
I think it's stupid to have pitchers bat... 9 out of 10 times you get an out. How fun is it when your team is in lets say the bottom of the third with two outs and the number 8 hitter comes to the plate... too early to pinch hit for the pitcher; they just intentionally walk the 8 hitter and get an easy out (most likely) with the pitcher who swings like Lance Bass.
But don’t get me wrong having pitchers in my fantasy league that pitch in the N.L. I breath a whole hell of a lot easier…

NO The DH or 'Designated Hitter' in the game of baseball is very important for three major reasons.
1. It extends the careers of a lot of wonderful athletes who
have injuries or tremendous power at hitting but not at
fielding.
2. It provides a wonderful opportunity for a Manager to bring to
play a hitter that can make the difference between winning
and loosing a game at a critical junction of the game.
3. It maintains a wonder-full 'unknown' element to the game.
anytime the DH comes to the plate...the whole game
seems to pause in anticipation of a "Home Run".

No, no,no, no, no..I'm sorry you purists out there but I do not find the pitcher batting or "strategy" all that interesting. Without the DH we'd have no Big Papi and his ilk to excite the crowds.
The DH is the best thing in baseball and has made the AL zip past the NL as the best league--no easy outs like in NL (the league where rallies go to die).

No leave the DH so pitchers can continue to focus on their job, PITCHING. We don't need million dollar pitchers getting hurt hitting balls.
American league WILL WIN the Series again!

i'd say dump it.....it's the ONLY reason why the AL is more dominant than the NL. besides....i'm tired of players getting all the glory when they haven't made a defensive out in 20 or so games....if they're that good of athletes, then have them play a field position. the DH is the number one reason why your beloved "Big Papi" won't ever win a MVP award.

It's been time to dump the DH for years now.
But, the players union is too strong. I am afraif it will never happen.
The DH is NOT the way baseball was meant to be played.

I believe it is. Managers should be judged on game strategy, not finding a big bat with no glove to fill a batting order spot!
