It is the timeline of a project that is the planned execution from the beginning to the end. It is a management tool that allows you to plan and allocate resources to successfully execute a project and every plan has to be flexible to accommodate any surprises and ensure that everybody involved with the project is on the same page.

Amed, Project Life Cycle works on the logic that tasks should be broken into a defined beginning, middle, and end. In Information Technology, this notion of PLC is adopted to keep all stakeholders aligned to the costs, time and resource constraints given to a solution, based upon where it is in it's life cycle.
Several "best practices" and resources exist for this. The best is from Gannthead or PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments)-- both offer ideas on how to manage beginning, middle and end. .
