I'm not sure you would categorize this as bold or stupid....
I was 20 yrs old and a restaurant manager. A regular named "Rocko" was in a foul mood and swearing very loudly for all to hear. Rocko was about 6' 4", very muscular and known to be a semi-pro wrestler. I went up to Rocko and asked him to stop cursing or I would have to ask him to leave, he answered back with the classic line, "And who's gonna make me!" and proceeded to stand up and stare me down (I am 5' 8"). Instead of backing down I stood my ground and stared right back at him without a word. After what seemed an eternity he backed off and left, of course not without yelling a few more obscenities. When he was gone everyone applauded me, I smiled, went to the back office and cried! Rocko came back other times but he never gave me any trouble after that. Was I nuts or what?
