It really depends on who you're asking. Anyone with an interest in history, particularly Elizabethan/Shakespearean times, or Medieval/Camelot times shouldn't have to look hard for something fun to do or see. Anyone who enjoys role-playing or is a kid at heart and loves dressing up can have lots of fun too. It can also be fun seeing what everyone else is wearing. They're similar to state/county fairs, with many booths and displays where there are a lot of cool things to buy that you can't really find anywhere else. You might even find some food stands that sell actual food that would have been eaten back then, using the same ingredients and prepared the way it would have been 500+ years ago. There are also usually events like jousts, archery contests, dancing, and a Shakespeare play. Good Renaissance Faire's will have "employees" wandering around, appearing like they're just faire goers, like yourself. But they're really suppose to be trying to make it feel more real to everyone, by talking in Olde English, and befriending people and asking questions to remind people that they're not in the 21st century anymore. It can be a lot of fun talking to them, and pretending it's all "real". So, to sum it up, if you have any interest in European history, historical costuming, fairy tales, or role-playing you'll probably find it fun. If not, you might not enjoy it as much. I've been to many Ren Faire's, and I think they're a blast. There are always new sights to see, new things to do, and new facts to learn. =)

It's fun if they are done well. Keep in mind some of the clothing can be rather risque so make sure you keep that in mind if you take kids. (Overflowing corsets, etc.)

The rides and such for children are all human or animal powered. It's a good thing to try once.
