Castro has had a huge and beneficial effect on Cuba. The previous Batista regime, which Castro kicked out, was in the hands of American criminal groups such as the mafia. Havana was a seedy playground for the worst sort of American and full of brothels and gambling joints. Now Cuba has one of the best Health services in the world with a life expectancy higher than that in the US and most European countries. Child mortality rates are very low. This has also been helped because the country is poor because America will not trade with them. Consequently people walk and don't eat low grade American processed food such as MacDonald's.
Their education system is very effective with a 100% literacy rate. Not many countries that can claim that. Castro has been influential throughout the region and other Central and South American countries have emulated his approach.
Do not take the American call for freedom at face value. Make a judgement based on the health and happiness of the people.
Not wishing to appear naive it must be said that dissent is difficult in Cuba and there are certainly a number of political prisoners. One would hope to see some move towards resolving this. Nevertheless the positive aspects far outweigh any negative ones.

Too really know that, I would have to live in Cuba.
Do the people have enough to eat.
Do the people have jobs
Do criminals get put away
Do people feel safe living there
Do people get health care (or taken care of okay)
Does Castro accept help from other country when offered
Does Castro ask for help from friend nations if needed
Does Castro try to set up trade agreement with friendly nations
As far as I know the answer to all these questions is ‘YES’,
Therefore IN MY OPINION, he is a good leader, took care of his people and country, with the giant neighbor the USA breathing down his neck.

i think Castro is the only outstanding charismatic revolutionary who ruled his country for 5 decades. the public health system, employment status and literacy rate are higher when compared to the so called big brother the USA. long live Castro.but the problems is he became isolated after the collapse of soviet Russia and i don't think his country could withstand without him because of economic sanctions of the USA

best people to ask would be the Cubans they live under his regime and we don't so any other views are personal opinions which without evidence to back them up is likely to be biased.
