Be as descriptive as you want, religious comments are welcome as long as no insults are used, for example "You athiests are stupid the world will end when Jesus comes back to Earth" is not allowed. On the contrary, "I believe that when Jesus comes back to Earth the world will end" is allowed. Thank you, and try to have fun with this. I like funny comments but don't go overboard with it.

My theory is that the "rain of fire" as portrayed in the Bible has a scientific reinforcement: the Sun expanding into a red giant.
P.S. Contrary to popular belief, the sun isn't massive enough to collapse into a supernova. It will expand into a red giant, then a nova will blow the matter away. It will then turn into probably a neutron star.

I am not sure exactly but there are lots of end times theories that you can find on the internet. Some are interesting, some are humorous some are convincing. There is a book that you can read online that I think presents very convincing and compelling evidence as it shows how biblical prophecy has been fulfilled. This book is a must read in light of the current middle eastern crisis. The name of it is "The False Prophet" by Ellis Skolfield and it can be found at www.EllisSkolfield.com. You can read it in a couple of hours and then watch as current events unfold so that you may be aware of all the signs. Enjoy!

Well, it's the Red Giant theory. Our sun is currently burning Hydrogen in a fission reaction... thereby creating Helium. In time, enough of the hydrogen will be "burned", and the sun won't be able to create as much energy as it used to. Just as gravity is compressing the sun, the energy of the hydrogen engine is expanding it, where it's reached an equilibrium at its current size. Eventually, when it cannot burn enough hydrogen, it will begin to collapse. When this happens, the frictional heat generated by this contraction will allow the sun to begin burning Helium to carbon. When this happens, the extra energy will cause the sun to begin to swell into a red giant. Initially, the global temprature will begin to rise. Then all the water will boil and evaporate, and then solar winds will blow off our atmosphere. Eventually, the sun will expand to somewhere between the Earths and Mars's orbit. When it expands over the earth, our planet will melt, and be obsorbed by the suns mass, but our planet will be a lifeless baked husk before that happens. The one thing you got wrong though is after the sun has expended all it's nuclear fuel, it will go nova blowing off the remaining matter, and what will be left is a white dwarf, the ultra hot remnant of the suns core approxamately the size of Earth to slowly cool in the void. Now... whether there will be any humans left in the universe by that point, I'll leave to the theologists and philosofers. I'm just a geologist. Good question, thanks.

The theory is that as the sun uses up its fuel it will gradually swell into a red giant star whose diameter will encompass the orbit of this planet, meaning it will be cooked, burned, charred to a cinder. Sad. But that isn't expected to happen for another 4 or 5 billion years.

In my opinion, the human race will not be around for the end of the Earth. Every species on Earth has a rise and fall of life. In general, the average age of a specific life form is 1 million years. I'm not sure if we will speed up our fall because we don't live in harmony with the Earth or not, but I think that it's a distinct possibility that we could have.
But the Red Giant theory sounds good!

The sun will become a red giant in around 5 billion years and
either toast the earth to a cinder or swallow it altogether..
Thats the end unless we get creamed by some giant asteroid
before then...

"World will end" is hard to define. If you mean the end of life on earth, it will most likely happen when man creates a condition in which all living organisms will be killed. We're doing a great job right now with our pollution and warlike activity that inevitably will go too far.
If you are talking of the destruction of the earth, that will happen when the sun uses most of its fuel and grows into a red giant, enveloping us.

The world will defiantly end. Its just a matter of when. The sun will eventually explode. Every star does. And the earth is just to close to the sun to make it through that. But we will probably be living on other planets by then!

i believe that the world would end up in flames. Think about it...over the years were constantly losing our ozone layer constantly gaining hole in it. Technology for us is only becoming more dangerous to either us, the environment, or mainly both. aerosol sprays for instant...billions of people use them burning more hole in the ozone layer once that's gone...our home we call earth is going to burn into ashes from the sun's ultra violent rays. Then we DIE!!!

Not by the hands of humans shall the world end but it will take a cosmic act that would unleash the power of nature and destroy everything in close proximity.
