Most would say the Mac G5 with Final Cut Pro, but PCs have come a long way in this department and can compete quite well with Macs. Besides they are much cheaper than Macs and more readily available. I'm putting together a PC now for video editing and it'll probably cost me about $500 when all is said and done. But some components I already own from older computers.
My friend works in L.A. cutting tv shows, and they are switching to the new Avids that are PC based. They are cheaper and just as good as Macs.

MAC's are gay... they cant even compare to a pc with heavy graphic.. cpu... and ram... the best should be with a intel processor or amd juts get a power one... like the new intel core 2 duo or a fast cpu above 3.4ghz ... ram should be well over 1gb i would go with 4 gb pc6200 thats speed is 1ghz... motherboard should be enabled with crossfire or SLI for power... hard drives should be western digital raptor hard drive size should be well over 160 gb... power from the power supply should be well over 500watts 700 watts are good for a sli or crossfire system... if you want more power get a 1000watt power supply (costs 500 bucks lol) thats all about i can say...

hello
i just can advice some of things in ibm compatible pc series , i just know mac pc series are suitable for graphic usage ,
now advices :
1- the main thing that will render your video is the tv capture card ,they have different kinds ,power full or normal or even bad
i advice you to buy special capture card ,not the capture cards that have tv tuner or radio chanel finder or so as ,just select the one that just do one work ,and its movie capture ,try to buy known brands rather than unknown brands ,try to buy expensive rather than cheap cards ,in computer field every cheap price has its bad side ,may be remarked brands or so as .also when you are buying it ,please ask of seller that it will offer you voice and video sync ,its to important ,some of capture cards have problem in syncinmg the voice with video
2- the cpu of the pc is the second thing ,try to by intel or even amd series ,but if you bought intel then you never buy celeron ,they are cheap ,but really they are weak to good capture . i think if you by more less speed intel cpu rather than celeron by more speed its better ,it means ,if you can by p4 2.4 full cache , its better of buying celeron 3.4.
3- amount of your ram is other important thing for it ,you must have at least 1 GB ram this days at least for it .if your ram be more then you will be more sure that your movie be smoother .
4- the big hard disk is the last thing ,but i can say most important thing .you need to buy at least 80 GB hdd ,and i advice you to buy 250 GB ,because may be there also the price that you will pay for 250 GB not to much more than 80 GB,the hard disk drive storage is to much important to capture videos ,and also the speed of hard drive also ,then i say its better you buy sata2 hdd ,and the mainboard that support really sata2 ,some of mainboards remarked to have sata2 ,but when you attend at their prices ,easy you will understand that in real they have just sata support not sata2 support ,if you buy sata2 hard disk and sata support mainboard then the speed of your hard drive will decrese to sata speed.
any way you know all of this set will work together ,every piece that you choose wrong will effect all of process to its ability ,as thing that i said about sata2 mainboards. be success
