My husband is thinking of joining the army or reserves as an IT specialist. What kind of work do you do in that position at home or while at war? Just wondering as a wife how dangerous is it. What are the chances right now if he were to join either branch with that job of being deployed, and just because you have a job like that does that mean you will not be on the front lines?

For the most part with that job he is going to be sitting infront of a computer. His main job is going to be trouble shooting and loading programs. For the most part he is going to be in a safe job whether state side or overseas.

Now for reality.

Just because he has IT as his MOS dont mean that it all he will ever do. The army is going to take any person from any where and stick him where he is needed. So if his job is IT but they need some guys to go overseas and perform infantry duty then he can be selected. I mean the chances of that happening arent great but you should be aware of the fact that it could happen.

I am an MP (Military Police) in the Army but we are also called MP (Multi-Purpose). So no matter what your job you can be doing anything. I do everything from base patrol to working next to infantry.

Good luck with everything.

You will have to be 17, I consider, however you'll must have a dad or mum signature. When you are 18, you will have to be ready to signal your self. If you are nonetheless in university, become a member of the Reserves, I'd say. Training is difficult. But, hi there...you MUST anticipate that besides, correct?

Given that the service is desperate for people, the chances are rather high that he will find himself in difficult spots (Iraq? Afganistan? elsewhere). An IT background should be very employable anywhere in the US. Has he thought about a civilian career perhaps away from where you currently live if employment there is not an option? Good luck to you both!

Most likely he'd not be at the front lines. It'll depend on what area of IT he goes into...... IT's a bit vague...... There are computer systems in Abrahams tanks, or artillery, etc. There're also computer systems the military uses that're not much different from an office system... These two examples are of MUCH different hardware. One will have him in the front, the other won't.
