Lesbian - woman who dates women.
Lesbian sex change to man - man who dates women.
The Lesbian feels like a man trapped in a woman's body, which is Gender Disphoria. The Lesbian changes to male, and is still attracted to women. The person is now comfortable in their own skin being the sex they feel they should be.
In your brother's case, you say he "just came out and is looking to take hormones".....is he Gay and Gender Disphoric, or just Gender Disphoric?
If he's Gay and Gender Disphoric, then if he has the sex change he will become a woman who's attracted to men.
If he's Straight and Gender Disphoric (which happens), then he will become a Lesbian. I know it sounds weird, but it really does happen.
Hope this helps.

Again, sex changes and homosexuality are two different courses. You're homosexual when you like someone of the same sex. Someone who wants a sex change, feels like they were born into the wrong body-ie, a man feels that he should have been a woman or vice versa.

Honestly, I don't know. But if that's what someone wants then that's perfectly fine with me.. I'm gay I can understand a lot more of the spectrum of sexuality than most straight people can..It strikes me that some lesbians really feels he should have been born male..and now are taking action to do just that...they are still attracted to women......their sexual desire doesn't change..only their self image changes.

I think you're touching a subject regarding transgendered individuals. Mosty gay people don't normally have the desire to physically change/alter his or her body; if one has the desire or need to change his or her body to feel comfortable with his or her body, then that person is transgendered (once that person has had surgery, then they're regarded as transexuals).
Please know that there's a population of straight people who crossdress, have sexual alterations to their body and yet still remain attracted to those they were attracted to before. For example, a straight man may have sexual reassignment surgery and may still remain attracted to women as a female. Confusing? Yeah, it's human sexuality. It's complicated.
Each and every individual is different. Transgendered people don't alter themselves for sex or for others, but for their contentment and psychological well-being. Also, transgendered people seem to be associated with gays and lesbians because they're in the same fight for rights.
If you brother wants sexual reassignment surgery, please inform him to make sure that's really what he wants, because once it's done, it's permanent. In fact, perhaps he should talk about this with a professional.

"Gender identity disorder" is a condition with which a person who has been assigned one gender (usually at birth on the basis of their sex), but identifies as belonging to another gender, or does not conform with the gender role their respective society prescribes to them. It is a psychiatric term for what is widely known by terms like transsexuality, transgender and (subject to debate, but full-fledged GID is present in at least some cases of) transvestism or cross-dressing. Another proposed term for the condition is Benjamin's Syndrome, named for Harry Benjamin, a pioneering researcher in the field of transsexuality.
This feeling is usually reported as "having always been there", although in some cases, it seems to appear in adolescence or even in adulthood, and it has been reported by some as intensifying over time. Since many cultures strongly disapprove of cross-gender behaviour, it often results in significant problems for those affected, and sometimes for their close friends and family members as well. In many cases, discomfort is also reported as stemming from the feeling that one's body is "wrong" or meant to be different.

I would bet that very few homosexuals male of female have SRS. I think most of them are pretty happy in their bodies.
SRS is almost always sought by people with gender disphoria, that is they feel deeply that they were born in the wrong gender and need to change.

I think these people are transgendered. They are born one sex,and feel like they should've been born the other sex, thus sex change operations. I'm not tg,so,I can't say,but imagine how awful it must feel to think you're one way,and trapped inside a body that looks to everyone in another way. I think that's the simplest way to explain it.

if a lesbian had a sex change to be a man it would probably because he/she felt that they should have been born a member of the opposite sex.
