Get yourself a good field guide to reptiles! Massasagua (rattlerless) rattlesnakes do live in lower MI. Although not listed, I wouldn't be surprised if timber rattlers were present, as there are isolated populations in southern WI. The Timber rattlesnake usually prefers rocky wooded terrain, while the Massasagua is usually found in swampy environments. There are however a lot of non-venomous snakes which can be hard to distinguish from venomous snakes, such as the eastern Hognose (Puff adder).

If it does not have rattles, it is not a rattlesnake. There are no rattleless variations of the species got here upon on the East coast and easily one on the West coast. Are you specific it is not between the pine snakes or of that family ( i've got self assurance it is pituophis family)? they're heavy bodied, keeled scaled and are available a brownish trend. Rattlesnake heads are unmistakable. they don't seem to be often latest in Michigan yet i'm specific there's a gopher snake species there. they seem to discover their way throughout.
