I think the major problem here is that "morals" gets associated with
a particular religion and then cultural diversity desensitizes us to
immoral behavior.

Really, I think the idea of trying not to hurt people, acting honestly, etc
are pretty indisputable - across all religions, agnosticism or atheism.

Forgive me, but I will use a Christian truism because it holds across
all: "Do unto others as you would have done to you."

I think people are not even trying to put themselves in other people's
shoes any more - and that allows you to do a lot that would be considered
immoral by the standard of anyone paying attention.

It is certainly true that I wouldn't say I was a moral person, though perhaps
that is what I mean. I believe I try to see things from other people's point
of view.

That does lead to something known as "Situational morality" which
used to be an epithet... I don't think so. If you truly understand what is
going on, you should be able to make the best decisions.

Did any of this make sense?

Religion is the culprit.... Especially Christianity.
Christianity says were are all sinners and that is OK to sin as long as we ask GOD for forgiveness. Then we will be cleansed and can go to heaven. so the only reason why Christa ins are good is so they can go to heaven. that is not being, living with good morals.now if you get insulted by this point of view , just proves that i am right, because a person with true morals
would realize that is only anothers opinion and not be judgmental.
Most wars are about religion. if there would be no religion there would be fewer wars.
You do not need religion to learn morals and integrity. We all know what is right from wrong. we do not need a minister or pastor or rabbi or what ever. Religion is a cheap way to fall back on our faults. i could go on but.......you want to bring integrity and morals into the world get rid of religion and start to take responsibility for your own life and always do the right thing whether you like to do it or not. just because it is the right thing to do. and you know what you will have a free and happy life, because you will never have to look back to see if you have been caught.

People are egocentric. There are selfish. Their only morals are their own. Unfortunately you can blame a lot of that on the parents and the churches for teaching solid morality. Schools haven't been able to teach morality since prayer was taken out of the schools.

I surround myself with people of my same beliefs attend church regularly and functions I also am a recovering alcoholic so I have a home group of AA friends who are all on the same spiritual path as I ,I do not have to work so I do not get wrapped up with people that way,but I enjoy my simple life with friends of high morality and whom I am accountable too.We like to stay in groups when we go out but also alot of true friendships I have found in this manner.

Morals are what people percieve them as being. Just because your morals dont coinicide with anothers, does not mean that they have no morals. I think you need to look at how other people have been raised and go from there. Dont pass jugdement against, just because you dont feel that they are morally intact.

All people have morals, just not YOUR morals. Use your brain next time you think about this.
