Asters, Mums, Pansy, Angel's Trumpet, Copper Canyon Daisy, Mexican Mint Marigold, Mountain Sage, Philippine Violet, Mexican Bush Sage, Coral Vine or Queen's Wreath, Desert Trumpet Vine, Chrysanthemum 'Country Girl', Sweet Autumn Clematis, Goldenrod, Oxblood Lilies, Red Spider Lily, and Climbing Carolina Aster are some of the fall plants.

Fall is also the time to plant those bulbs for early spring and summer flowers: such as daffodils, tulips, hyacinth, lilies.

Besides mums and asters (same genus), you can plant fall flowering sedum (a perennial); some people call it Autumn Joy (that is just the cultivar name of one type of fall flowering sedum), or flowering cabbage and kale-purples, greys and greens-gorgeous! And don't forget pansies can be planted again since tempertures are lower.

Yes, of course, you can plant your bulbs for spring, but I am pretty sure that's not what you meant. And any annual you plant will die as the cold weather settles in, unlike one poster who said they live all year. I think she confused perennials and annuals.

There are some varieties of plants that are meant to be planted in the fall. If you're looking for annuals, look for ones with names like "snow," "ice," or "winter" in the names. There are some hardy pansies (some called "snow queen" or "ice cap," depending on the grower) that are quite popular to plant this time of year, and they bloom for quite a while, even when the weather turns cold.

There are many bulbs that you can plant in the fall if you want spring flowers. Among them are tulips, crocus, daffodils spring blooming lillies, starflowers. Too many to list all of them here. If you want flowers for the fall, try mums, echinechea (coneflowers), black eyed susans, flowering cabbage (kale) and tall varieties of sedums.

Tulips and daffodils are planted in the fall so they come up in the spring. Mums are also planted for fall color. Mums are supposed to come back but in all honesty, many times they dont.
