I want to know if anyone can tell me how the Govt. or maybe advertisers can control what you think, and what you buy?

Of course they control what you think.. no magic, just plain old propaganda.. one method is to repeat a lie so often that it's simply assumed true without question.
Watch this documentary, about FOX news channel in the USA. Most of the footage is in english, so just watch and see.
