Leave it alone. When your body is ready, it will push it out. When it gets close to the surface of your skin, then take it out. Otherwise you'll cause an infection.

Splinters can cause pain, swelling and possible infection if they're not removed promptly.

Steps: 1. Try to 'milk' out the splinter by gently squeezing your fingertips over or on each side of it. If this doesn't work, try the following steps.
2. If you're worried about causing pain, rub the splinter site with a numbing teething gel or ice before removing the splinter. Keep in mind, however, that chilling the area may cause the splinter to retract from the top of the skin and may make its removal more challenging.
3. Clean a needle, a pair of tweezers and a small pair of nail clippers with isopropyl alcohol or Betadine solution and let it air-dry. Be sure to swab the pinching surfaces of the tweezers and the cutting edges of the nail clippers. 4. Use soap and water, or Betadine, to wash the skin where the splinter has lodged.
5. With the tip of the needle, make a small hole in the skin above the splinter. Once you have access to the splinter, gently try to squeeze it through the hole. If necessary, increase the size of the hole with the needle. Use your tweezers to pull out the splinter as soon as you can get hold of it.
6. If you're not able to open a path for the splinter with the needle, use the nail clippers very carefully to cut away the skin above the splinter.

Tips: Most splinters eventually work themselves out on their own. If you're having difficulty removing the splinter and it's taking you more than a few minutes, wipe the site again with betadine to continually resterilize the site.

If it's large enough and deep enough it can cause a serious infection.

If you will not go to a ER (they can get it out quickly and far more cleanly than most people), you should first clean the are around it with peroxide - yes it will sting. Clean a razor blade and make a VERY small cut directly over the line of the splinter - you will have to be careful not to cut to far along - the area direcly over the splinter shouldn't bleed or have too much pain, so try ot stay directly over the line!

Once you have exposed the splinter, get it out with the tips of the tweasers. If you can't grab it without trouble, use the point of a clean pin to pull it out.

MAKE SURE ALL OBJECTS HAVE BEEN CLEANED FIRST!

Once out, treat like any other cut - clean, bandage and make sure to change the bandage twice a day at the minimum.

Do NOT use the above procedure if you are unsteady of the splinter is too deep to see! If it is small enough your body will push it out - just look for thin red lines leading away from it - that indicates an infection and needs to be treated ASAP.

Take a trip to the local urgent care center (look it up in the yellow pages) because it's far cheaper than an emergency room.

Or, get a sewing needle and pull the skin away from the splinter, a little bit at a time. Eventually you will either manage to pull out the splitner with tweezers, or merely weaken the skin enough that the splinter will work itself out.

this will probably hurt but you might need to put the tweezers over a flame until they are very hot and then u touch the skin lightly where the splinter is and if ur lucky it's not in deep and the tweezers will burn through the outer layer of skin above the splinter, ten you can get it out. after that I would suggest covering up the place on your hand where the splinter was so that it can heal quickly

what i do, if it is just under the skin and can see it, i use a straight pin and go in where the splinter went in and start lifting the skin up and trying to force the splinter out, and if that doesnt work, i will lift and tear the skin just enough to get the tweezers in to pull it out. could aslo try using a bit of "skin" from the inside of an egg and put the "wet" side to the splinter, cover with a band aid for a couple of day until the egg skin draws the splinter out.

In a few days it will fester and the skin over it will weaken and get red and sore. Once you see the whiteness fo the pus bag you can often squeeze it or break it with the point of a needle and squeeze it out. The pressure of the pus inside the wound will loosen the splinter and lubricate it as it is pushed out of your hand. Once you can grab it with tweezers you should do so. You might not be able to get it out otherwise.
I get a lot of splinters. I know this.

warm up a washcloth in the microwave and place it on the splinter...do this a few times until the skin becomes really soft, the splinter may actually come up to the surface with the heat, but if not, the skin should be soft enough for you to dig it out with a needle/safety pin or tweezers without it hurting as bad

Only one quick way, use a sterile needle, burn it with a flame , candle or similar first , clean it ,and open the skin over the splinter. Work the splinter loose and grab it with the tweezers.
Put some antiseptic cream on the wound.

Don't go to the emergency room - what a waste of everyone's time. Don't use a knife either, you're likely to cut yourself and then you WILL need to go to the emergency room. Use a pin to rip the top layer of skin (just the dead bit, so it won't hurt) and expose the end of the splinter so you can pull it out. If you steralise the pin first (put it in boiling water for a few mibutes) then there's no danger of infection either.

Put and soak your hand in a bowl of the hottest water you can stand, this usually makes the splinter rise to the surface and then you can get it with a pair of tweezers.
