As you know, Moon, I'm originally from WNY and I love the Buffalo Bills but this is definitely a team in rebuilding mode right now. We do have some talent at certain positions but we're mighty thin in several critical areas, most notably on the offensive line and defensive lines.

On offense, Willis McGahee really has to prove himself after a sub-par year during which he was basically out of shape and played some very uninspired football. Our quarterback situation is a nightmare as we have three capable back-ups but no proven starter. Our receiver corps has been hurt by the loss of Eric Moulds and, aside from Lee Evans, I think we have a bunch of 3rd and 4th WRs (unless Peerless Price returns to form) but not a legitimate starter to take some of the attention off Evans. We've improved a bit at tight end but none of these guys is anything special (Robert Royal is a blocking TE and Kevin Everett was, I suspect, another failed Donahoe gamble). Once again, the O-line is poor and is our weakest link.

On defense, we have a great linebacking corps but Takeo Spikes is returning from one of the most catastrophic and difficult to overcome injuries in professional sports -- the dread torn Achilles tendon. Don't get me wrong, Takeo is awesome and the heart and soul of the Bills D but he has to be viewed as a question mark until he can prove he's able to play the way he did before the injury. Our D-line is weak at the crucial tackle position, though the addition of Larry Tripplett will help compensate for the loss of Sam Adams. We have an excellent DE in Aaron Schobel but the other side is very ordinary. Our secondary has been strengthened by the drafting of several very talented young corners and safeties, but they still have to prove themselves on the pro level. Nate Clements will be long gone by this time next year for contract reasons.

Finally, our special teams are the brightest spot on the team. Bobby April has done a superb job of coaching, and in Terrence McGee and Brian Moorman we have the best return man (and a budding starting CB) and one of the best punters in the NFL, respectively. The new head coach, Dick Jauron, will have to prove his one winning season in Chicago wasn't a fluke (I confess I have my doubts) and I think Marv Levy needs to add some more free agent depth (especially on the two lines) between now and the start of the season. He also needs to get our #1 draft pick, Donte Whitner, signed and in training camp immediately.

I think a 3rd place finish in the division (ahead of the Jets) and another year missing out on the playoffs is the most likely outcome. The worst case scenario would be finishing dead last in the league... but it might be worth it. Why? Because we'd have the #1 overall pick in next April's draft, and I believe Brady Quinn would solve our starting QB problems -- and finally replace Jim Kelly -- for the next 10 years or more. Not too shabby, eh?

GO BILLS!

I am from Buffalo ( you should know this by now after I talk about the Sabres alot) and I am going to be honest. I think the Bills will be aweful. Unless J.P can really step up his game, The run defense needs to get alot better and the play calling needs to improve. The offensive line must also improve and Willis needs to have a big year. I just hope everyone can greatly improve and next year have a big year but who knows the AFC east has gotten weaker so we will see. GO BILLS!
