Democrats to Minimum Wage Earners: Why don't you just Drop Dead?

Question

LOL, the Democrats were able to kill a bill that would have raised the minimum wage, but because it was tied to a bill reducing estate taxes, the Dems opposed it.

Question is, are the lives of people making minimum wage now any better because some 'rich' people will be paying a little more in estate tax (since the bill died)?

If Dems care so much about the little guy, then why not go ahead and pass this bill, and then, if they're SO SURE that they'll win in November, at that point they can vote (in a stand alone bill) to put the estate tax right back where it is?

sophieb, no one makes minimum wage for more than 90 or 120 days, if they're worth anything at all. And nobody's raising a family of five or ten making minimum wage. Min wage is for young people with absolutely no experience (although I know some older folks on SS that either take a min wage job or work fewer hours at higher pay in order for their wages to not interfere with their SS Income, but that's another topic)...

I know for a fact that a person working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks of the year at the salary of $5.15 would make an income of $10,712. A person could get food stamps if they made this kind of income, and get public housing, and own a car if it was a clunker, and they would also get free medical assistance. I think the income they call poor is around $9500. This, of course is based on a one person household.

If they were "motivated and maximized" their time, worked where they could easily work several jobs, worked a day job, and an evening and weekend job (this is the max they could work without automated websites and having their money automatically work for them) they would be able to work 76 hours for 52 weeks at $5.15 which would total 3952, for a total income of $20,352.80. They would be way over the guidelines for being poor, and they would not get food stamps or government assistance.

I saw a lady on tv yesterday who has 2 children, a job that earns her $10,000 a year and she's on welfare and she says she barely makes it.

The difference between the $10,712 and the $20,252 is that most people "who are USA citizens" prefer to stay on the lower amount because the benefits of doing so are tremendous.

The difference is that a big percentage of those who want the increase in mimumum wage are not the USA citizens, because if they were they would have figured it out already that the benefits are greater than the pay.

Because the non-citizens and those who have not thought this thing thru, already get huge "benefits" from the USA (one of them is medical) and we're trying to prevent that and send them home, this law fell thru.

Individual states can and DO approve an increase in the wage. Those states that want an increase in their minimum wage can get their state to put it on the ballot and people can vote on it. So it doesn't need to be a federal law.
This is why I think it didn't pass.

In my opinion this doesn't have anything to do with being Democrat or Republican.

The democrats are trying to get the minimum wage passed without adding on a ploy that just helps the rich get richer. What good is it to bring up the wages of our poorest Americans if at the same time we bring up the incomes of our richest Americans, Nothing really changes. We need to close the gap a little and stop letting the republicans base an improved standard of living for the little guy on whether or not they can get something through for the rich.

Yeah, the rich get richer as they prey on the poor workers just trying to support their families. I am middle class not poor, but I don't get any joy out of watching people slave for next to no pay so the big giant companies can make more money or just say "to hell with your raise, I'll just send my jobs overseas where the even poorer can work even harder to have even less."

Wow, great grasp of the political process you have there. The democrats will pass an unconditional minimum wage hike when they are in control come November, without adding a tax cut to the wealthiest americans. So yes, it will be better.

The Republicans had a chance a few weeks ago to pass the minimum wage bill. It was killed by them.

Now everyone is playing politics. And yes, I think the Dems are wrong.

The only way the wealthy can get MORE is to tie themselves to the carrots that lead the goat ... if the goat don't move, the wealthy still pay. We can still live, even if we have to steal from the wealthy ... and you'll still pay your inheritance tax. LOL!
