If life is indeed hard for you, then you're obviously in the wrong job.
You can't possibly be happy unless you love what you do.
Psychological studies have shown that the majority of workaholics are not that way because they especially love their jobs but because they were raised to feel that they are worthless unless they get the approval of their friends, family and colleagues. They have a deep psychological need to feel accepted and loved.
Check out the excellent book "Quiet Desperation: The Truth About Successful Men." It is very enlightening about this question.

i think for the workaholic it is a self inflicted hardship.
lounge-aholics claim life is different. (even if they're poor and broke all the time)
i guess it depends on the personality type.. the mindset.
i used to be a workaholic... i guess i'll always be ... i'm relaxing more now because of health reasons... (based on working a wee bit too hard and avoiding things like HEALTH!) i felt guilty for the longest time.. and i still do.. it's like.. ugh, gotta do something!
must do something to feel normal again.... must do something to feel good about myself and accomplishing something.
or it's the... oh no, you're doing it all wrong... if you want it done right.. guess ya gotta do it yourself.
don't avoid the important stuff... time flies then it's all over.

Workaholics have to find a balance between work and enjoying life (family). You probably won't be remembered at work, but your family will always remember the good times you had together. Money isn't everything.

Simply because we enjoy the gratefulness and blessing we get at work due to results we achieve. Meanwhile the balance, that I didn't reach yet, between family, friends,.....should also be considered.
By the way, I've changed the whole country that I was working in to find some time for my family, meanwhile my life is still not balance. But, I guess there is no other option than to keep on trying to find the right balance.
Good Luck

It need not be....think positively .......ur a workaholic only because u luv ur work & want to attain success in whatever you do...... sometimes if you feel too caught up in work and your life falling apart then take a break , have a vacation , recharge your batteries and move along.

Do you mean, why are you a workaholic? Trying being lazy a little. You might get the hang of it.

Because you work too much! Take a vacation. There's more to life than money. I know, it's a hard concept to grasp since money seems to make the world go 'round. But if your god is money life will be hard.

Live a litle. Reward yourself some. Otherwise years will gone by and you will be too old to enjoy it.
