I found the Ballad of the Whiskey Robber written by Julian Rubinstein to be very interesting. I read half of the book and it's great!

"Lonesome Dove", by Larry McMurtry. Pulitzer prize winner, and TV made a great mini-series out of it. Of course the book was better.
