What is an alternative for novocaine for use in eye surgery?

Patient is allergic to novocaine. Is there an alternative product to
put in the eyes that is safe and as effective as novocaine?

As I understand it, any derivitive of Novocaine will cause her heart to stop.

Depends on if the allergy is specifically to novocaine but not to any of the other local anaethetics...

lignocaine/xylocaine
amethocaine
proxymetacaine

(I'm not sure which one novocaine is)

Other than that, I'm not aware of any products that can be applied topically for the same effect.
