Does it make any difference? Many children have been exposed to actual killings...much more vivid than the Hollywood versions and with real screams and blood. I was interned as a child (with my parents) by the Japanese during WW II by the Japanese. I saw men beheaded, others tortured and myself beaten.....As far as I know I am not violent because of my experience, I have two doctorates, speak seven languages so I am hardly mentally defective. If I can do that so can the kids of today...but with proper parental nuturing to insure that they can appreciate the value of life.

Well, children in the 40s saw the same, wars violence and the rest, up close, specially in Europe, and not all of them turned out to be the same, it depends of the parents, not TV what children think is right or wrong. If a child think is OK t go around killing people is because of his family, maybe they're aggressive, ignorants, neglect their kids well.. bad parents all over.

But it's true that certain programs on TV don't really help like people supporting and cheering for stupid mentally incompetent irrelevant, abusive, obscene "celebrities" like some (99%) of Big Brother's contestants. Children watching that type of programs really need a lot of parental guidance to understand that those people are just a perfect example of how NOT to be,

But as long as parents are responsible, it should be OK

Violence begets violence if it is not checked. Children at any age are impressionable and whilst they should not stifled from reality, by the same token they should not be subjected to the violence that is seen on the television. Allowing them to watch this news full of violence will only lead them to believe that killing per se is the normal way of life.

Children should be set strict guidelines as to what and what not they are allowed to watch on the television. Like I said you cannot protect them from life but please give them a chance for heaven's sake to enjoy their childhood.

Most children avoid watching the news. It's on usually at dinner time or when they are doing homework or playing video games or outside playing. Current events are usually virtually unknown to them until about 9th grade. And the most influence anything about killing others is made on them is by their acquaintences and usually it concerns the classmates they don't like, not what the government has done.

Most of us saw this kind of stuff when we were kids and i don't think i've been effected by it.

I say less censorship so people can see the REAL consequences of violence rather than a sugar coated version.

News doesn't glorify violence like films do, it just presents it and it's up to the parents to educate their kids that it is wrong.

Governments have been commiting acts of violence for years already.Remember watching the news as a kid, violence on t.v. and in real life as i grew up in a rough area, but I'm in no way a violent person.Depends on the kid, their socialisation etc.

i think it has to do with the way we raise or children, if we let them watch the violence and not explain it to them they will have some problems in there future. unsupervised children always get a bad wrap. my children were not sheltered from all the bad things in this world, but they were guided and they do know the difference between right and wrong

We had this same violence back then. The only difference is that we now have news 24/7 and they need filler. Personally I would turn off the TV.

That has been going on since 1960 we are two and a half generations into all that violence. Only .3% of our population are criminals. I think they can tell the difference.

Didn't do me any harm when I was growing up! Daily..on every news there was something in it about the troubles that were in Northern Ireland...then there was the Falklands War. If they have the right neutering at home..shouldn't be a problem!
