SETI@home is a bit of software that uses your computing power, combined with the power of other PCs around the world, to analyze radio signals coming from space to determine whether any of those signals are artificially generated (that is, if someone SENT the signal rather than it just being background noise). The program runs only when your computer is idle, so it won't slow you down when you're working on something. I've had it for a few years with no problem.

Isn't seti short for Search of Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence? If you have the program, check the details of your computer if it has enough disk space to run the program.

seti is safe to use. it takes advantage of unused bandwidth, usually when you are not on your computer and it can be regulated by you. it uses this bandwidth to send signals out to space and to try and receive some sort of conformation from an alien life form. in essence it is the search for alien life.

It is about helping to analyze signals received by the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence program.

No and yes.

It runs in background only when you are not using your computer.

Have fun. Maybe you will be the one to discover the first legitimate signal from outer space.
