To the person that stated that Hydrogen is simply a store of energy "Like batteries", you must consider that most fuel sources are simply a store of energy.
Nuclear power is simply releasing the stored energy that had held together an atomic nucleus. Fossil Fuels are simply stores of energy generated by the interactions between intense pressures and organic material (mostly plant matter). Solar energy is, in essence, the same as nuclear power in this way: the sun undergoes fusion, which is again a release of energy that had held together atomic nuclei. Wind is caused by an uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, which is again caused by fusion. All of these are extensively used in current society, even though they are just "stores of energy, like batteries".

Depends how much attention governments will ultimately pay to this global warming issue.
If it turns out to be a non-problem, or if for some other reason it will be environmentally acceptable to continue to burn fossil fuels (e.g. some way of sequestering CO2), coal will keep us going for a long time after we finish the oil.
Otherwise, fast-breeding reactors, fusion reactors and solar power are the most obvious energy sources. Another possibility is to harvest HE3 on the moon. That makes very good fusion material, easier to exploit than tritium.
As for those who mention hydrogen: it's not an energy source, just a storage medium like batteries. Unless used as fusion material, of course. But that will not be possible anytime soon.

at my age I don't need to worry but there problems with all . Hydrogen sounds like the perfect fuel it only produces water vapor Wrong. Just like gasoline the manufacture have reduced the efficiency to lower the chamber temperature so it will not produce NO2 . it does create the smog which looks bad,but mother nature produced NO2 in large quantities so is it bad ???
Mother nature produces NO2 by lightning very hot.So the hydrogen care would burn hot and produce NO2 . The only solution is to reduce population density.
All u young students everything has not been solved there are many solutions out there with new problems GO GET THEM.

Nowadays are fossil fuels.
And the reason is only Economic!
Finance corporations decided it for everyone.
Dollars are simply paper that take value when can buy oil or gas or other commodities.
If we don't fund the research we won't exit this problem.
There are a lot of exit ways and the most powerful tool is human brain when it is not purchased by corporate industries.

The production of E85 makes as much carbon dioxide as the burning of gas so I think that hydrogen will be the next big fuel source.

either water, sun or air.
We have not yet learnt how to use them effectively and abundantly enough to make others use them... I am too, convinced as others in here are, that these three will be the sources...
Most probably the sun.

Greasel--recycled cooking oil. Already they are selling kits so that regular truck and car engines can make the conversion.
