LOL. I've lived here all my life. People drive like idiots around here. There aren't many people that are in a big hurry here though. Well with the exception of my Mom running late for church on Sunday morning about 9:15am on 9 mi rd/hwy 90. She's usually driving 60+ mph until the friendly highway patrol flashes his top lights at her warning her to slow down. This is the lady that used to tell me I was driving too fast and now she says I drive too slow. Ah well, I wont flash my lights at you anymore when you pass me. You really should wear your seatbelt though ya know! Last thought... I really think it is more big city vs little city.

It is hot down there! People move slowly so they don't get heated up fast in the South.
It is also possible that some are not used to being out of their air conditioned environment and are sluggish till they are warmed up, like some reptiles.
So it just depends what group you are running into...but it would be hard to tell the difference.
In the North people need to keep warm during the cold times of year. By moving quickly burn more calories and create a higher body temp for themselves. They get used to that speed and don't change it for the summer months.

Humm...well I live in the south, not Florida though, and I don't find that drivers here are slow..matter of fact around here you better put the pedal to the metal or get run over..eeek. I have lived in Pensacola and didn't find them any slower there. So don't know what to tell you other than you are just used to speeding?

I used to live in CA, then I moved to the south. The people drive worse here than in CA! ^_^; You live in FL, so there's a lot of old people living there, which is the reason for the slow drivers. In any other southern state, they probably drive a lot faster. Hope I helped answer your question! ^_^

Where I live (Georgia), people typically drive between 10 and 20 mph over the speed limit.

That is a false stereotype. I live in the rural exurbs fo metro Atlanta(Paulding County) and people drive very fast, and sometimes in placse where they shouldn't drive that fast(ex. Subdivisions, school zones). It happens in the south and it happens in both the city and the rural areas.

Have you EVER been to Houston? 15mph over the speed limit is the slowest acceptable speed, you will be ticketed for holding up traffic otherwise.

Southerners do everything slowly. They are in no hurry to get anywhere and the heat has slowed them down.
