It was Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard". Her character was an actress from the silent film era. She goes crazy and kills her young lover at the end of the movie and when the police come to take her away and the film lights are shining on her, she looks into the camera and says, "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille." She thinks she is acting in a movie for Cecil B. DeMille.

uhm....i would get my facts straight before i go mis-quoting people.
the staement is "i'm ready for my closeup mr DEMILLE" as in "cecil b. demille"
and it was gloria swanson.

It wasn't Mr Deville...it was Mr DeMille, meaning Cecil B. DeMille. I think it was Marilyn Monroe saying she was ready for a close up.
