We have spent billions trying to help people in other countries and it seems like no one likes us any way. Why not?

Simple envy and jealousy. It's no more complicated than that.

The U.S. accomplished more in 200 years than any other country accomplished in 1,000. Countries that have been around for thousands of years can't compete with us economically, or in any other way (except maybe some countries have better soccer players, I'll give 'em that).

China's economy should be fifty times the size of the U.S. economy...what have they been DOING over there these past 5,000 or so years?

Europe USED to be the center of the world...two, three hundred years ago... now, the U.S. surpasses and dominates them in every measure (except they have better soccer players than we do).

Mainland Eurpoeans can't defend themselves, they need the U.S. to do it. The people of France are nothing but a bunch of snail eating surrender monkeys.

Check the unemployment rates in France and Germany lately? Off the charts...even though WE were the ones that were attacked on 9/11, everyone said it would take decades to recover economically... it didn't.

Americans are the most productive workers in the world. The EU combined economy is about the size of the U.S. economy, but Europe has 1.5 times the population of the U.S.

With a capitalistic system that rewards risk and entreprenuership, anyone can come to the U.S. from anywhere in the world, and make quite a nice living...if they're willing to work at it (some people come here and even make a nice living WITHOUT working, thanks to the people that DO work)....

I meet a lot of Europeans in my work (banking)...they come here to live six months out of the year (the maximum they can stay here and still keep their citizenship in their own countries)... they're amazed at things we in America take for granted... they can't believe the amount of food on the shelves in our supermarkets... and every town has several supermarkets to choose from, even small "hick" towns... Jeez, we've had supermarkets since the 50s...when's the rest of the world gonna catch up?

That, of course, is just one example ...the Europeans I'm talking about are from Germany and France, the two largest economies of mainland Europe (The UK's economy is larger than France, but smaller than Germany's).

The history of the entire world consists of countries telling other countries what to do... people think the U.S. was the FIRST country to ever get involved with other countries? Try doing a little research on the history of Europe, people!

And, btw, the rest of the world has ALWAYS hated the U.S...it's not something that just started in Jan of 2001, when Bush took office.

Several reasons. Remember though, that whether these reasons are fair or not is a separate matter.

-The Arab world believes the U.S. sides with Israel in every given issue, and doesn't care much for Arabs, in fact the U.S. is percieved as being hostile towards Islam. They also supply money and weapons to Israel, which is then used to kill Arabs. This is the perception you need to adress with Arabs.

-Europeans (and others) believes the U.S. acts mostly in its own interests and have little interest and even knowledge in international matters. Many countries view the U.N. as a vital (if a bit impotent) organization, whose authority the U.S. is trying to undermine. The Bush administration has emphasized that they will act alone if need be and this is offensive to Europeans, who believe strongly in international cooperation. Right or wrong, this is the perception you need to adress with Europeans.

- Americans sometimes have a spirit of initiative, 'the winner gets all' and a pretty outspoken patriotism. These are not bad qualities but they can be interpreted as obnoxious. You need look no further than Tweety, the answerer below me. Many regions in the world emphasize humility and being soft-spoken. For instance, you don't speak about money or your career; that's boasting and very rude.

None of these things would really be a problem if the U.S. was a small country the size of Italy or France. But you have all the big guns, lots of major industries and wield a lot of power. So whatever whims you have for the day will affect a lot of people.

Because we dictate how others will live and we think because we have money and spend it there, they have to do what they are told... understand that it isn't so much the government normally as it is business taking advantage of the government... Take for instance that we pay someone her in this country 11.00 per hour and then we walk into a country set up a factory and pay them 37 cents and hour with no benefits and working 12 hour days, 6 to 7 days a week. Then we bring the same pair of shoes or computers back to this country and sell it for the same amount or more. Is that fair??? Not only has business taken away a job from the poor here in this country we have set up a sweat shop in that country. The bad thing about it is that you, yes you, end up paying for it. This government gives companies write-offs on their taxes for moving the company in the first place and then attempts to offer them tax breaks if they will move the factory back. You the tax payer end up paying the taxes... or making them up for the company that is not payin fair amounts of taxes... It is a screwed up system, but know this... supporting the republican party that supports people doing this isn't a good thing.

Because we are not just helping them. We are in their business and taking sides. We can't make everyone like us. If we could just stick to human rights and human suffering, we would still make enemies from trying to help the ones that are suffering. But we don't stick to that. We are a world power that thinks the way other nations run should have some benefit to us. That is why every world power eventually fails. It becomes too self centered. We need to back off of other nations issues except where the state of the world is concerned. Let them solve their petty squabbles and don't take sides according to who has the most oil. We need to stop trying to impose our values on them and let them run their own countries.

Well, gee, where do I start? For one thing, we make it a point to tell others how to conduct their affairs. We start wars that are based on lies against countries that pose no threat to us. We act as if we are better than everyone else. We think that our way is the best way and we don't bother learning about the languages or cultures of other parts of the world. And last, but certainly not least, we have a semiliterate president who is an arrogant a**hole.

Some Americans are too... too... big for their knickers! They can get ignorant, jump the gun without even trying to know/learn about something, like, Oh, you Muslim? You bad, that kinda thing.

And the world doesn't hate Americans conclusively, but we hate America.

Why make such a big brouhaha about immigrants? You should be thankful for the diversity that comes to the US and if they wanna speak their mother tongues (for the uninitiated, that means, your motherland's main language) in the US, it's up to them! Without them, America would simply be a dull white-land.

And stop calling Asians with those deragatory racial slurs. I say get a life. This goes to those UK's teens whose mouths need a good wash with HCl.

Most people hate American Foriegn Policy and thus project that hate to all Americans.

American Foriegn policy is in direct contradiction with Democracy and corporate America rapes the land of other countries, stripping it of its natural resources and reaping untold profits while the local people still live in poverty

I'm an American with family since the pilgrims and I don't blame people for hating us. We are nothing but a bunch of arrogant bigots, bible thumping, bible dictating, arrogant jerks that think we have the right to tell all minorities how to live and think we are better than everybody else in the world.
