I used to be a big fan of the Guardian news Digest. It digested all the news from around the world, highlighted the big topics and gave the different angles and opinions. They don't publish a hard copy of that any more, but they are doing an online digest (see below).

I also like to watch Have I got News for You because that also feels like a summary of what's going on - and anything you've not got much knowledge about, you can get the gist quite quickly. And it's funny.

Radio 4 in the morning to listen to what's happening while you're getting ready for work (or to go to the gang...what kind of gang??)

Finally, don't be afraid to ask people (especially someone who's into current affairs) why something's happening - some people think that someone else asking 'obvious' questions makes them seem dumb. That's rubbish, it's the people who aren't afraid to say 'I don't understand' that are often the most intelligent. Curiosity is power.

Read a good newspaper every morning and watch the news every evening. There are also good programmes like the daily politics and question time. You could also listen to BBC radio 4 as they have in depth news and documentaries.

Try buying a newspaper that centers on currant affairs, rather than famous people. You might learn something. Spend more time watching the news channel.

everyone has a liking for something, find out what you like...could be music..painting...ect, try to think why you like your choice, get it known that's what you like, the key is to wait till someone mentions that thread, or hangs a thread off the conversation that can be used
then jump in....you seem to have asked a great open question here..so there can't be much to fret over
so time to ask...what do l like..why or why not....and what defines my judgements that cause that....or put another way have a good daydream...lol
