I'm about to turn 29 years old and I am transferring from a community college to finish my BA in Biology at a major university.

Yes, I know, I started college late for various personal reasons...

Anyhow, I figure I'll be finished in two more years when I'll be 31.

My dream and ultimate goal is to go to Medical School. That would be another 4 years of school on top, so when I finished that I'd be 35. Then I'd have to do another 2-3 years of residency.

So I'd be about 38 or so by the time I'd be a truely independent adult working as a physician.

I'm very motivated to do all of this, but my age is a big discouraging factor for me.

My personal circumstances didn't allow me to go to college earlier.

What do you guys think? Am I too old? Am I taking on too much considering my age? After all, I'll be somewhat dependent on others financially well into my 30's.

You are not too old. In fact your age, maturity and dedication will probably serve you well when it comes to the hard work necessary to become a doctor. You have more life experiences and a different perspective than the students just out of high school and you will be a better doctor because of it.

No. Lots of people are n their late twenties in college. Its not uncommon at all. I'm 29 and I am just now getting ready to start college.

See, whe people go into the military (like me) they usualy start college later than the people who went right out of high school. So you might have a good mixture of friends, but the older ones will have more life experience, and most likely be veterans, too. Dont worry- Veterans like me- we got your back, sugar. It isnt anything to be worried about. My brother in law is 34 and he is still going to college, (for his PhD). You can never stop learning, so if some spoon fed rich kid comes along and says something derogatory to you about your age, just tell them the truth, and educate the idiot on the other stuff I said.
I have owned small businesses for years, since I left the Navy, but I am now ready to go to college (before the GI Bill time runs out I only get 10 years to use it, lol)

Anyways, enjoy school! Its fun, you'll love it!!!!!!!!

I'm 35 and a nursing student, set to graduate in December with an Associates. I plan on continuing on to get my Masters and will be about 38 when I finally finish. Go for it, it's never too late.

It is NEVER too late. You follow your dreams. Age is just a number. Don't let that be a deterrant to doing what you want to do.

Many people change careers mid-stream and decide to pursue other interests later in life. You've got to follow your own path. Don't worry about the age.

Besides, at 38, do you really want to be miserable saying what if? 38 is young! Too young to regret not doing what you wanted to do and living your life resenting that you copped out.

I am sorry, you need to go ahead and reserve a room in an olds folk home at your old age,

Of course not, Age is only a factor if you make it, and you seem to be making it one. If you start to think and beleive you are too old, then that feeling will be felt by others and can hurt your chances, if you beleive you can, and believeyou will, then you can.

I don't think you're too old, as long as this is what you want to do. Colleges accept people of every age because we all have the right to further our education. (The right to pay for it is a different story.)

I will be in a situation similar to yours soon. I don't care what others think, I will finish my college.

Since when did they forbid us to study after 29? No my dear because there's no age when it comes to schooling and learning so just go ahead. Just make sure you're really going to finish everything
as a gift to the person who finances your schooling and of course to yourself.

I am 51 and I am currently in RN school won't be finished till I am 53---does that discourage me? Not at all---so study on my friend and don't let something as simple as age hold you back

You are never too old to go to college. I'm going to be forty soon, and I'm still in college. Even after I graduate, I'll probably continue to take classes, for the sheer fun of learning.
Go for it!!!!
