Tattoos are a way for someone to claim their body as their own, and for a lot of people are very symbolic. If we're talking particularly about women, I would hazard a guess that it has something to do with advertising's constant attack on the self-esteem- research has shown that 75% of women would say they 'hate' their body. If they want to celebrate it, personally I'd say good for them! You think they're 'defacing' their bodies, but a lot of people think of tattoos as body /art/.
Even when only used as a fashion accessory or 'rebellious' statement, tattoos can be beautiful. It's the right of any adult who wants one to have a tattoo, and depends on their taste, not yours. Sorry!

There is nothing horrible about tattoos. Some people find this the easiest way of remembering a loved one that has passed away or remembering a time in their life that has been difficult. Just because you can do this in other ways doesnt mean others can!

It's all about personal choice, you can't say to someone that they are defacing their bodies...guys tats can look bad as can girls, its all about getting the right one, something personal and nice...

For many people they represent something to them. In my case I have 2, one on each ankle. The butterfly means flying out of a 17 year marriage and the flower means blooming into a new life.
I got my flower on my 42nd birthday this year. They mark major
milestones in my life.

i have to agree some women get some burly tats, but i am a women with 9 tats and i will get some more, all my tats are feminine and most of them are for my hubbys eyes only.
tattos are not defacing they are art. and if you have the right artist you can go wrong.

what i do with my body is my personal choice.each tattoo i have is thought through . on my right arn i have a dove under that the date i married and then wedding bells i find this unusual this was my idea my creation.and i love it .if your tattoos are the same as everybody elses then its pointless. you may aswell not bother but add somthing to make it different. and its all your own.

No - I hate them, they are just not for me though I do believe each to their own.
Having said that I only ever seem to come across very rough girls/women with tattoos. I apologise if I offend and you do not fall into this category - if ever we meet you will prove me wrong!

personally, not ALL tattoos are horrible.. some are hideous and disgusting and even trashy so to speak.. but to generalize that that all of them are horrible is wrong.. tattoos are the purest form of selfexpression.. they commerate what people have gone through, wishes, and dreams they have had, even loved ones lost... one of my closest friends at age 16 when her mother passed away in a traffic accident got a small tattoo of a heart with her mother's name in in on her hip bone.. is that so bad ??? or what about the fact i have my initials in my handwriting (at 18)on my hipbone.. then when i got married (at 25) i got my husband's last initial filled in as one of his wedding presents! he adored it... and for those who may be thinking 'what if you divorce!' i have to say this.... laser removal! tattoos are NOT permanent people.. they can be removed!!!!!

I have four tattoos.
I love all of them - but they are incredibly personal to me and are in discreet places which if at a "posh" function or job interview would be covered over easily.
It is personal choice.
