They are more portable than a CD player because they jump all the time. You may never listen to all of the songs on the ipod, but at least you have a choice to if you wish. You can have a very wide selection to suit your mood at that particular time.

You are correct in that some people will never listen to that many songs. It is mostly an issue of being "hip" or buying into a trend.
On the other hand there are some people with a varied taste in music that will listen to 100's of songs. There is also the factor of having every song available at once. You might only listen to a song once every couple of years, but with an ipod at least you have it right there rather than searching for a CD.

I have a Dell DJ that is 20gb that's over 9,000 songs. I have about 2,000 songs on there now and I have listened to all of them at least once. It is better than a CD player. I work as a janitor and it is easier for me to attach it to my belt and turn it on. It doesn't skip when I bump it. I don't have carry a lot of CDs too. I do not have to download songs. Most of my CD collection is on there. I consider it legal because I am not distributing the songs for profit.

Youre right, I have 600+ songs on my iPod and its really a lot but I make it a point to listen to all of them though...Its not about the quantity dude, its about having a song (or songs) that fits the mood in a particular time of the day. W/c also amazes me coz I sometimes forgot I have those songs on mine. Basically feels like I'm listening to a radio station, minus the chatty DJ..hehehe..

I do listen to it all. maybe not consectively in one sitting but in one way or another it all rotates and it's an easier way to carry a myriad of songs vs carrying around bulky cd cases and heavy cd's. The ipod was the best invention next to sliced bread!!!

Well, there are many people who would like to have as many songs as possible, to suit their listening likes. My brother is a music FREAK, and had trouble choosing the music he would upload since he had limited space. I personally have a 7 disc stereo and RARELY ever stray from the 7...which drives my brother nuts.

you buy a cuple songs, you listen to them constantly, you get bored, you buy more songs, that's the cycle, I have 60 songs and listen to about 10 of them right now, then I move on.
P.S. If sliced bread is the best invention, what was the one before?

ure such a killjoy... i dont even think ure making any sense. people who buy ipods just want to make all their songs of choice in one compact and handy gadget (mp3 player, ipod, etc.). imagine trying to carry a bag full of cds when you can just all download it into one ipod....

some people listen to their ipod 24/7, and dont repeat them.
other than that, it's technology, that everyone wants to say "they have".
