Three parts - head, body, tail.

h = 6
t = 12 + b/2
b = 6 + (12 + b/2)
b = 18 + b/2
b/2 = 18
b = 36

t = 12 + 36/2 = 12 + 18 = 30

6 + 30 + 36 = 72 inches, or 6 feet

The alligator is 6 feet (72 inches) long.

let x=head=6,
y=body,
z=tail.
y=x+z
z=2x+y/2
y=6+z
z=12+(6+z)/2
2z=24+6+z
z=30
y=36
therefore size is 30+36+6=72
