I started taking away the bottle and replacing it with a sippy cup I knew she liked when she turned 1. I started the transition slowly by changing her lunch bottle to a cup and once she was used to that I changed her morning bottle to a cup and then we did the same thing with her bottle before bed. This method worked really well for our daughter and she was off the bottle within 2 weeks. As for the food problem just give him cubed up vegetables, meat & fruit and let him feed himself. They also make disposable mats that you can put under his highchair for easy clean-up. Hope this helps!

It's always the parents choice, but I believe it's fairly common for childeren to begin to be weaned from the age of about 9 months - a year. Being that your son already drinks other liquids, cut him down to a bottle a day (obviously give him other drinks of water/juice throughout the day) then two bottles a wekk etc because he really doesn't need them anymore. Give him milk in a sippy cup from now on.
Try and feed your son, but if he is independent, let him do it himself a bit. Maybe compromise (can you compromise with a baby??) and feed him some let him eat some himself. It doesn't really matter that he gets it everywhere - as a male this will never change! but perhaps tell him nicely to keep it neat, and rewad him with a little treat if he behaves like a big boy.
Hope this helps.

Normally, bottle feeding is a must at night when he goes to sleep. But I started weaning my kids off the bottle at age 4-5 when they were eating more regular food and could finish more than 8 ounces from a glass. Milk - until their teens of course.

If your child is already drinking other liquids from a cup,put milk in a cup and give it to them also. Give them the bottle less each day. Also let him eat himself even if he is sloppy. That is how they learn. Put small amounts on his plate at a time, and when he wants more give it to him. This way you can also train him to not overeat. If you know he has eaten enough food, give him his milk in a cup to finish his meal. I wouldn't give him liquids while he is eating, because then he might not eat his food.

general rule of thumb is around 15 months to wean baby from bottle---much easier said than done :) you're on the right road since your son is drinking from a sippy cup already...keep using it more and more and try to get him to one bottle before bed and then eventually phase it out.....did he perfect his pincer grasp? give him lots of little bits of turkey, cheese, cheerios, small veggies and fruits and less baby food that you need to use a spoon for.....he's too young to eat by himself with a spoon (without a total mess that is!)---good luck dear!

with the bottle thing I just woke up one morning and gave my kids cups instead of bottles. They were 9 months and 10 months. For me the "out of sight out of mind" thing worked. Your child should be allowed to feedhimself. He has to learn and while they're learning they are going to get messy.
