Who is the British Foreign Secretary, no one could answer. Who is the Lord Mayor of London? No one could answer. If the US is a great nation, how come no one knows the answer to two simple questions.

"If the US is a great nation"? You have your doubts? Americans also think the English can be rather snobbish. If I was in London I wouldn't think of asking for the names of the American counterparts, nor question your nation's character.

When it is all said and done, England is just one nation among around the world. Do you know the names of all the leaders of Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Japan? How about Ethiopia, India, Vietnam etc?

On another note though, I think America is great. We are so consumed with our lives that most people don't care about politics. Some people see this as ignorance. I see this as people transcending above the view of looking at people as from this country or that country and viewing everyone as one people. Your own John Lennon wrote a song about how the world be so much better without politicians and governments, didn't he? When it is all said and done, America is a true capitalist country. The government keeps the order, but our businesses have a much greater influence on us. If you asked Americans who was secretary of the Treasury in the USA, I would think only few could answer. Most probably could tell you that the Waltons own Walmart, Bill Gates owns Microsoft and recognize most of the fortune 500 companies in America.

First off this is not England, And why would anyone care who is the Foreign Secretary or Lord Mayor. London is not in the USA and has no power or influence over what we do here. They are of no importance to us. What use do I have for this knowledge?

I can't vote for any one in England and I don't think you will ever have the chance to set down and have a beer with one of them let alone that thought of ME haveing a clear view of the let alone being able to talk to one of them. Till I need to know these piddlie little pepoles names I won't know them. I know some of the high level names in the USA but only because every chanel on my TV has them on. But I only see a need to know their names so I can vote for them is I even wanted to vote.

If I visit England I sill will not care who runs the place. All I will care about is where is the good places to go. Oh yes i almost forgot. .Them hot Brit chicks with that nice bell tone in their voice.. Yummy.. I want to know their names..

Please pardon my politics. But I think you have ask those questions to the wrong person or persons. Human's intellect come from many different influences, background and the people they interact with. So the people whom interact with real-estate will only know majority about real-estate. But if you ask a question regarding British governance to a baseball player or a farmer. They will not know the answer because a baseball player might interact with other baseball players and they know much about the sport that they are in and the people they are interacting with. Same as with farmers because a farmer only deal with crops and they interact with other farmers. You could get a right answer if you ask an American who works at the British Embassy. Or you could get the right answer if you ask someone who had stay in London for a while.

Because Fox News doesn't report it. Americans don't know proper English let alone anybody from England. I have to admit I didn't know who the present Foreign Secretary was either. But I do try to keep up on international politics.

People often don't pay attention to foreign polititcs and don't always know the answers to lesser known politicians. I do know the Prime Minister was Tony Blair (not sure if this changed recently) and a lot of others probably know that as well. The questions you asked would be like asking who the speaker of the house is in Congress here.

When I was in London, I asked Londoners who is the Assistant Bean Counter to the accountability office. Not one Brit knew.
I then asked who is the used car salesman in California who has a dog name Spot? Nope, they didn't know.
Gee, I thought England was a great ally to America :(

Because America is a huge country with a large amount of politicians of its own. We have 50 states with 50 different state governments, thousands of cities, multi-millions of people, not to mention a huge federal government. We don't even know the names of all of our own politicians. We know who the prime minister is, Tony Blair. Do you know who the mayor of Minneapolis, MN is or who the Secretary of the Treasury is in the USA? If not, I won't be mad at you. Your an ally who couldn't possibly know every political detail of my country unless you spent all your time studying US politics.
